How to Use "Such as"


There are only 2 ways of using the phrase "such as."



1. ,such as A, B, and C


The first usage is for adding non-essential information.



2. such as A, B, and C


The second usage is for adding essential information.





We cannot use a comma or a colon between "such" and "as."



such, as A, B, and C (incorrect)


such as, A, B, and C (incorrect)





We also cannot use a colon (:) and ‘such as’ together because of REDUNDANCY.


I have three things: such as A, B, and C. (incorrect)


I have three things: A, B, and C. (correct)


I have three things, such as A, B, and C. (correct)


I have three things such as A, B, and C. (correct)
