How to Use Quotation Marks with a Comma

No comma is needed when the quote is not a complete sentence and is part of the sentence

He said that he would "find the man."

The author believes watching TV is "beneficial" for students.

However, when a complete sentence / idea (capitalization of the first word will help us identify this) is quoted, a comma is used after the verb.

The headline in the newspaper declared, "People in tears, Embracing the change."

He said, "I will find the man."

Colon can also be used to quote more than one sentence

(a sentence must be used before a colon).

Perhaps Buddha said it best: "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, and concentrate the mind on the present moment."
